Why is there no spark coming out of my ignition coil?

If no spark appears, check for broken wires, shorts, grounds or a defective stop switch. Once you have confirmed that the stop switch is working, reconnect the spark plug lead.

Q. What would cause no spark from coil?

Loss of spark is caused by anything that prevents coil voltage from jumping the electrode gap at the end of the spark plug. This includes worn, fouled or damaged spark plugs, bad plug wires or a cracked distributor cap.

Q. Why does my lawn mower have no spark?

If no spark appears, check for broken wires, shorts, grounds or a defective stop switch. Once you have confirmed that the stop switch is working, reconnect the spark plug lead.

Look for the large terminal posts on the solenoid where the thick red wires connect to the solenoid. Touch the metal shaft of a screwdriver to both of the large terminals at the same time. If the engine turns over and starts, the solenoid is bad and should be replaced.

Q. How do I know if my lawnmower coil is bad?

One of the symptoms of a bad lawn mower ignition coil appears when you are mowing the lawn and the mower gets hot and literally shuts off. The mower must cool down over a period of time and will start and run for awhile until it gets hot again, at which time it will shut off again.

Q. What if my ignition coil has power but no spark?

There are a few reasons for no spark, new coil pack could be defective, crank sensor, ignition module or bad wire in primary circuit, faulty ECM/PCM. You may have to have a good technician have a look, diagnose and estimate repair.

Q. How do you check for Spark with no start?

As shown in the Crank/No Start video, you can easily check for spark with a spark tester or screwdriver. In fact, with a crank/no start condition, I often check for spark first since it’s usually the easiest thing to check.

So if you isolate your ignition coil and you know you have spark coming out of it but it’s not getting to the spark plugs, you have a problem with the secondary side of the ignition system. This could mean a problem with the distributor cap, the rotor, the wires, or the spark plugs themselves.

Q. What does it mean when your engine cranks but wont start?

No Spark – When Your Engine Cranks But Has No Spark When your engine cranks but fails to start, it could be because of no spark. No spark is one of the most common reasons why your engine will not start. When taking on a no spark condition one needs to be patient and have an open mind.

Q. What does no-spark mean?

Another common cause of a no-start condition is no spark, or no ignition. It’s the first thing I check for with a crank/no start condition. No-spark conditions can have a number of causes, but for starters, we need to know if we have spark when we crank the engine.
